Frequently Asked Questions
What is Hylenex and how does it work?
Hylenex is an enzyme called hyaluronidase that safely dissolves unwanted or migrated hyaluronic acid filler. It breaks down the filler particles so your body can naturally clear them.
When is Hylenex recommended?
Hylenex is used when filler has migrated, created lumps or bumps, left asymmetry, or no longer aligns with your aesthetic goals. It can also be used to correct filler placed by another provider.
How quickly does Hylenex work?
It begins dissolving filler almost immediately, with noticeable improvement within minutes to hours. Full results are typically visible within 1 to 2 weeks.
How many sessions will I need?
Many patients need only one session. More complex or deeply placed filler may require multiple visits to fully dissolve.
Does Hylenex hurt?
You may feel mild stinging or warmth during injection. We use ice, numbing ointment and gentle technique to minimize discomfort.
Will dissolving filler affect my natural tissue?
Hylenex targets hyaluronic acid filler, not your natural collagen. Once the filler is removed, your tissue settles back to its normal baseline.
Can I reinject filler after dissolving?
Yes. Many patients dissolve unwanted filler to start fresh. Your injector will recommend the ideal timing to refill, usually 1 to 2 weeks after dissolving depending on healing and treatment goals.
Will all the filler be gone?
The goal is to remove the unwanted portion without over dissolving. Your provider will tailor the dosing to address only the areas needed.
What if I only want part of the filler dissolved?
Hylenex can be used with gentle precision to target specific areas of migration or unevenness so the rest of your results remain intact as much as possible. However, it may not be possible to spot treat in some cases.

- Not normal: severe pain, spreading redness, warmth, or discoloration. Contact us immediately if any of these occur.
- Full dissolving may take 1 to 2 weeks depending on the amount and depth of filler.
